Lebanon City Police received numerous reports of unauthorized EBT card transactions.  This often occurs as a result of data gathered through Card Skimming Devices.  Be vigilant when using Debit/Credit or EBT Cards.  

What Are Card Skimming Devices?

     They are small discreet devices criminals attach to legitimate card readers to illegally obtain your DEBIT/CREDIT or EBT information.  Then can be placed over the card reader slot or inserted into the machine.  They are commonly placed on ATMs, Gas Pumps and at Point of Sales Terminals inside a store.

How to Spot a Skimmer

•      Physically inspect the card reader before use. Check for misalignment or odd protrusions.  If the reader wiggles or looks different from other nearby card readers, it may be compromised.
•      Keypad Examination: look for inconsistencies in the keypad appearance.  The thickness and color difference may indicate an overlay.
•      Security Features:  If security tape or stickers on gas pumps have been broken or tampered with use another pump and notify an employee.

How To Protect Yourself from Skimming

•      Use contactless payments:  If possible, use Tap-to-Pay options.  They are generally more secure than swiping or inserting your card.  
•      Pay inside if using a gas pump. Staff can monitor for suspicious activity.
